  • Training programs
    The Neuropsychology Post-Doctoral Training Program, which meets postdoctoral training criteria established by Division 40 (Neuropsychology) of the American Psychological Association (APA), is designed to provide advanced research and clinical training for post-doctoral residents in neuropsychology. The Director of the program is John DeLuca, Ph.D., ABPP and Kenneth Kutner, Ph.D. serves as the Clinical Director. Fellows are expected to spend at least 75% (and up to 100%) of their time working on research projects ranging from inception (e.g., study formulation, grant-writing, etc.) to manuscript publication. The program is administered through the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School, in close collaboration with the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation. Training and experience may take place at several locations throughout the New York and New Jersey area.

    Fellowships have been funded through a variety of sources, including the Henry H. Kessler Foundation, the National Institutes of Health (F32 and T32 funding mechanisms), and the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research.

    Postdoctoral Fellowship in Neuropsychology

    The Neuropsychology and Neuroscience Laboratory at the Kessler Medical Rehabilitation Research and Education Corporation (KMRREC) in West Orange, NJ, is seeking applicants for its Postdoctoral Training Program (75% research, 25% clinical, two-year fellowship). The program, which follows postdoctoral training criteria established by INS/Division 40 of the American Psychological Association (APA) and the Houston Conference, is designed to provide advanced research and clinical training for postdoctoral residents in neuropsychology. The program is administered through the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School. The Director of the KMRREC Neuropsychology and Neuroscience Laboratory is John DeLuca, PhD, ABPP; the Associate Director is Nancy D. Chiaravalloti, Ph.D. Kenneth Kutner, Ph.D. is the Clinical Director of the Neuropsychology Fellowship Program. The lab conducts training and research in the study of human cognition and its rehabilitation in clinical populations using research the research approaches of cognitive neuropsychology, functional brain imaging, and virtual reality technology. Current research examines neuropsychological deficits associated with a variety of clinical populations, including multiple sclerosis, traumatic brain injury, anterior communicating artery aneurysm, and stroke. Grant funding for the laboratory has included large government center grants from the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Veterans Affairs, R01 funding from the NIH, Advanced Multidisciplinary Training Program Grants from the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research and the U.S. Department of Education Rehabilitation Services Administration, and several grants from the Henry H. Kessler Foundation. The laboratory conducts collaborative research with over 25 other individuals locally, nationally, and internationally.
